List of Ingredients
Deep Fried "Indian" Bread
6 cups all purpose flour
2 tbsp baking powder
1 1/2 tsp salt
3 1/2 cups warm water
1 whole small can of Crisco
Recipe
Combine dry ingredients, mixing by hand. Then add water, pouring each
cup slowly, while kneading into dough. Don't make your dough sticky.
After dough is done, let it sit covered for 30 minutes.
Meanwhile, empty out the can of Crisco into a large skillet and melt
over medium heat. The grease will have be very hot.
When dough is ready, place a handful on your hand, and roll into a
ball. Round it out and be sure to flatten it so you can roll it out
(like little pizzas). After you roll it out, cut 2 2" slices in the
middle of dough and place into deep grease. Turn bread when you
notice bottom getting brown. Each side will cook about 2 1/2 to 3
minutes - watch carefully1
Eat with peanut butter, jelly, honey, or cinnamon. Or use as a side
dish with chili or soup.
