Recipe Introduction
The first Arbor Day was April 10, 1872 in Nebraska. That state was a barren plain, so the pioneers missed the trees - they also needed them for windbreaks, firewood and shade. Prizes were offered to the towns that planted the most trees on that one day. (It was estimated that more than one million trees were planted.) Over the years, This Date spread to other states and other countries. It is generally celebrated the last Friday of April, but the date is flexible to allow for local climates.
