    List of Ingredients

    Curious George's Favorite Cookies

    1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
    1 1/2 teaspoons banana extract
    1 egg
    2 1/3 cups Gold Medal all-purpose flour
    1/2 teaspoon baking soda
    Granulated sugar
    Banana Frosting (recipe follows)
2 tubes (0.68 ounces each) Betty Crocker chocolate-flavored or black decorating gel

    Recipe

Heat oven to 375 degrees. In large bowl, beat 1 cup granulated sugar and the butter on medium speed until smooth. Beat in banana extract and egg. Gradually beat or stir in flour and baking soda.

Roll level tablespoonfuls of dough into 6-inch ropes. Place about 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet; curve slightly to make banana shapes. Flatten to about 1/4 inch with bottom of glass dipped in granulated sugar.

Bake 8 to 10 minutes or just until edges begin to brown. Cool 1 minute; remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely.

Make Banana Frosting. Spread frosting on each cookie. Outline each cookie with decorating gel and put a line lengthwise down the center of each cookie to look like a banana design. About 40 cookies.

    Banana Frosting:
In large bowl, stir together 4 cups powdered sugar, 1/4 cup milk, 3 tablespoons light corn syrup, 1 1/2 teaspoons banana extract and 8 to 12 drops yellow food coloring. Add just enough milk to make frosting smooth and spreadable.

This won first place at the 2003 Oklahoma State Fair for Dennis McKinney of Oklahoma City, who went on to compete at the national level:
