Mom made this often for Sunday dinner.
Another family favorite!
List of Ingredients
3 pounds beef round roast
2 Tbs. shortening
2 cans onion soup, 10 3/4 oz. each
1 medium bay leaf
1 medium garlic clove, minced
6 medium carrots, cut in 2" pieces
8 small potatoes, peeled
1 medium cabbage, cut in wedges
1 lb. turnip, sliced and cut into large cubes
8 small onions, peeled
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup flourRecipe
In large heavy skillet or pot, brown meat in shortening.
Pour off fat.
Add soup, bay leaf, and garlic.
Cover and cook over low heat for 2 hours.
Add carrots and turnip and cook for 30 minutes.
Stir occasionally.
Add potatoes, cabbage and onions.
Cook 30 minutes more or until done.
Remove meat and vegetable to a platter.
Keep warm.
To make gravy:
Blend water into flour until smooth.
Slowly stir into meat sauce.
Cook, stirring constantly, until thickened.
Serves 6
