    NANA'S RECIPE (Original)

    Recipe Introduction

It certainly would not be Easter without these. My nana Morelli used to make sure she put eggs in the basket dough. This represented new life in Christ. Since no one still eats the baked eggs, I make a pretend egg in the dough and just get more cookie! As we got older (matured), we began just making single cookies. I love the smell of these when they are baking.

    List of Ingredients

    3 Cups Sugar
    2 Cups Crisco
3 teaspoon Anise Seed - 1/2 teaspoon pure anise oil (purchased from you local pharmacist)
    4 Tablespoons baking powder
    4 Cups Flous
    2 Cups Milk

    Recipe

Cream sugar and Crisco. Add eggs one at a time and beat.Add Anise and baking pwder and mix. Add milk and flour a little at a time and mix with a spoon until you can not mix with your spoon anymore. Then use your hands and roll the dough as you would for baking bread. Dough will appear smooth

Bake cookies 375 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes
Bake baskets 375 degrees for 20 minutes

After cookies are cooled, frost with powdered sugar and sprinker with candies.
