NANA'S RECIPE (Original)
Recipe Introduction
This is one that gram made perfect and mom made almost as good. The taste and smell of these still linger in my mind. It just did not seem like Easter or Christmas without them. I remember grandma taking them out onto Aunt Sarah's porch. She said it was to keep them fresh. I think it was to keep us away from them! LOL...
Just remember to makes the dough a day before you want to roll it out. And check out this recipe...instead of saying shortning, it says spry! Not any of the young ones know what spry is!!
List of Ingredients
1 Cup flour
2 Table. Sugar
1 1/2 Tablespoon Spry cut in
1 egg
3-4 Tablespoons Water
Recipe
Mix in until it doesn’t crack
Next day work again. Roll until you see table top very thin
Cut into squares that will fit your rods and fry in oil.
It may be a good idea to fry a piece of scrap first to see how thick it becomes before cutting all you shells out.
