Recipe Introduction
Used each Easter morning after church for our traditional Slovak/Italian breakfast. Although we may have added a lot of things over the years, the recipes remained in tacted.
List of Ingredients
- 1/4 Cup Lukewarm water
- 1 Cake yeast or 2 packages of dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon Sugar
- 1/2 Cup Sugar
- 4 Cups Flour
- 1 1/4 Cup Scalded milk
- 4 egg yolks
- 1/2 Cup Butter melted
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1 Tablespoon Lemon Rind or 2 teaspoons lemon juice
Instructions
- Add Scalded milk and 1 cup of the flour. Stir until it is hard. Set aside to cool.
- Disolve yeast in the lukewarm water and add the sugar.
- Add yeast mixture to the flour mixture and let rise.
- Beat egg yolks with sugar until they are a lemon color.
Add melted butter, three cups flour, salt, lemon rind.
- Mix well with first flour mixture and kneed.
- Butter pan and bake 350 degrees for 1 hour.
