Soft Molasses Cookies

List of Ingredients
- 1 cup shortening
- 1 1/2 cups unsulfered molasses
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 4 cups sifted flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon cloves
- 1 1/2 teaspoon ginger
- 1 egg
Instructions
- Melt shortening in a sauce pan large enough for mixing cookies.
- Stir in molasses and sugar; cool
- Sift together flour, salt, soda, cinnamon, ginger and cloves.
- Mix in small amount of flour.
- Beat in egg.
- Add remaining flour, blending until smooth.
- Chill about 2 hours.
- Shape into 1 1/4 inch balls and place on cookie sheets about 2 inches apart to allow cookies to spread during baking.
- Bake for 15 minutes at 350 degrees.
- yields 4 dozen cookies.
