- 1/4 cup warm water
- 1 pkg yeast
- 3 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 (8 oz) container sour cream
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup butter
- 3 T maple syrup
- 1/2 tsp salt
Instructions
- Combine warm water (105 to 115 degrees) and yeast in a small bowl or measuring cup; mix well and let stand for 5 minutes.
- Meanwhile, lightly oil a large bowl; set aside. Beat together whole wheat flour, sour cream, egg, butter, maple syrup, and salt in a separate large bowl. Stir in the yeast mixture and form into a ball. Transfer to prepared bowl and turn to coat evenly with oil. Cover with clean dish towel and let rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a large baking sheet; set aside.
- Place dough on a lightly floured surface and roll out to 1/2" thick. Cut into 3" squares and roll into balls. Place on prepared sheet and let rise for 30 minutes. Bake at 350 degrees on a greased baking sheet for 20 minutes until golden brown.
