    List of Ingredients


    • CRISCO No-Stick Cooking Spray
    • 1/4 cup (1/4 stick) Butter Flavor Crisco Shortening, melted
    • 8 soft white bread slices, crusts trimmed
    • 1/2 pound bulk sausage, crumbled and cooked
    • 1 cup grated sharp cheddar
    • 1 4-ounce can chopped green chiles (canned)
    • 6 large eggs
    • 1 cup whole milk (do not use lowfat or nonfat)
    • 1 teaspoon prepared mustard
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1/4 teaspoon pepper


    Instructions


    1. Spray an 8x8-inch glass baking dish with Crisco No Stick Cooking Spray.
    2. Brush bread slices with melted Butter Flavor Crisco. Place 4 slices in the prepared dish.
    3. Top with 1/2 the sausage, chiles and cheese. Top with 4 more slices of bread, then remaining sausage and chiles.
    4. Beat together eggs, milk, mustard, salt and pepper. Pour egg mixture over the layers and sprinkle with remaining cheese. (Can be prepared 1 day ahead, covered and refrigerated until ready to bake.)
    5. Preheat over to 350ºF. Bake strata until puffed and center is set, about 40 minutes. Let stand 5-10 minutes before cutting into squares; serve warm.
