    Buttermilk Pound Cake


    List of Ingredients


    • 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
    • 1/2 cup shortening
    • 2 cups sugar
    • 4 eggs
    • 1/2 tsp baking soda
    • 1 cup buttermilk
    • 3 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1/8 tsp salt
    • 2 tsp lemon extract
    • 1 tsp almond extract


    Instructions


    1. Cream butter and shortening; gradually add sugar, beating well at medium speed of an electric mixer.
    2. Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition.
    3. Dissolve soda in buttermilk.
    4. Combine flour and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Mix just until blended after each addition.
    5. Stir in flavorings.
    6. Pour batter into a greased and floured 10" tube pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.
    7. Cool in pan 10 to 15 minutes; remove from pan, and let cool completely on a wire rack.


    Final Comments


    Yield: one 10" cake.
