    List of Ingredients


    • 3 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
    • 1/2 tsp baking powder
    • 1/2 tsp salt
    • 1 cup butter
    • 1/2 cup shortening
    • 3 cups sugar
    • 5 large eggs, separated, whites beaten until stiff
    • 2 tsps vanilla
    • 1 cup milk
    • 1 cup chopped pecans


    Instructions


    1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 10" tube pan; set aside.
    2. Whisk together flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt. Set aside.
    3. Cream butter and shortening until fluffy. Gradually add sugar while beating. Add egg yolks one at a time and beat well after each addition. Beat in vanilla.
    4. Add flour mixture to creamed mixture alternately with milk. Fold beaten egg whites into cake batter.
    5. Pour batter into prepared cake pan. Sprinkle nuts on top. Bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Do not over bake.
