List of Ingredients
- 5 cups all-purpose flour
- 4 tsps bakign powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, at room tempearture
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 4 tsps vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt until combined; set aside.
- In another large bowl with an electric mixer at medium speed, cream together the butter and granulated sugar. Beat in the eggs one at a time until combined. Beat in the vanilla.
- Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture and mix with a wooden spoon until combined. Divide the dough into 4 pieces, shape each piece into a disk, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for 3 to 4 hours.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. On a lightly floured surface, using 1 disk at a time, roll the dough out to a 1/8" thickness. Cut into shapes using cookie cutters. Place the dough on ungreased baking sheets 1" apart. If you intend to hang the cookies, use a small straw to pierce a hole in the top of each cookie wide enough for the ribbon. Gather the scraps and reroll to make more cookies.
- Bake the cookies for 9 to 11 minutes, or until they are lightly browned. Check the holes to make sure they are still intact; if not, poke them again. Transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool.
