    • 1/4 lb (1 stick ) butter, softened
    • 1 cup granulated sugar
    • 1/2 cup molasses
    • 1/2 cup sour cream
    • 2 eggs
    • 1 1/2 cups flour
    • 1 tsp baking powder
    • 1/2 tsp salt
    • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
    • 1/4 cup confectioners' sugar (optional)


    Instructions


    1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Butter and lightly flour a 9" square pan.
    2. Cream the butter and slowly add the sugar, beating until light and fluffy. Add the molasses and sour cream and blend well. Add the eggs, continuing to beat until well mixed. Add the flour, baking powder, salt, and ginger and beat until smooth. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30 to 40 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Let cool for 10 minutes, then dust with the confectioners' sugar if desired.
