    List of Ingredients


    • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef
    • 1/3 cup barbecue sauce, divided
    • 1 to 2 tomatoes, cut into slices
    • 1 onion, cut into slices
    • 1 to 2 T olive oil
    • 6 kaiser rolls, split
    • green or red leaf lettuce


    Instructions


    1. Prepare grill for direct grilling. Combine ground beef and 2 T barbecue sauce in large bowl. Shape into 6 (1" thick) patties.
    2. Place patties on grid. Grill, covered, 8 to 10 minutes over medium-hot coals (or, uncovered, 13 to 15 minutes) or until thermometer inserted in centers of patties registers 160 degrees, turning and brushing often with remaining barbecue sauce.
    3. Meanwhile, brush tomato and onion slices* with oil. Place on grid. Grill tomato slices 2 to 3 minutes and onion slices about 10 minutes.
    4. Just before serving, place rolls, cut side down, on grid; grill until lightly toasted. Serve patties on rolls with tomatoes, onions and lettuce.


    Final Comments


    Makes 6 servings

    *Onion slices may be cooked in 2 T oil in large skillet over medium heat 10 minutes until tender and slightly brown.
