Chocolate Chip Buttermilk Scones

- 3 cups self-rising flour
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 3 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup (6 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips
- Glaze:
- 1 cup confectioners sugar
- 3 tbsp water
- 1 tsp vanilla
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and baking powder.
- Cut in the butter until the mixture is crumbly.
- Stir in the buttermilk just until blended.
- Stir in the chocolate chips.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface. Knead gently for 8-10 times. Pat into a 9 inch circle. Cut with a floured 2 inch biscuit cutter. Place 1 inch apart on greased baking sheets.
- Bake at 450 F for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown. Remove to wire racks.
- In a small bowl, combine the glaze ingredients until smooth. Drizzle over the warm scones. Serve warm.
