Recipe Introduction
Gianduja is the Italian name for hazelnut-flavored chocolate, a combination especially favored in Switzerland and Italy, where hazelnut-chocolate spreads are as popular as peanut butter in America. The best know Italian spread, Nutella, is available throughout the U.S.
List of Ingredients
- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry from a 17.3 oz box, thawed but well chilled
- 3/4 cup Nutella
- 1 T unsweetened cocoa
- 1 T confectioners' sugar
Instructions
- Unfold the pastry and roll on a lightly floured surface to a 12" square. Use a sharp knife to cut into 9 (4") squares. Place 1 heaping T Nutella in the center of each square, spreading slightly to the sides. Moisten the edges of the pastry by running a damp finger over the edges. Fold the pastry over to form triangles. Use the tines of a fork to seal the edges together. Place the pastries, at least 2" apart, on an ungreased baking sheet. Place the baking sheet in the freezer for 10 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Bake pastries, directly from the freezer, until rich golden brown and well puffed, 15 to 17 minutes. Transfer to a rack to cool slightly, then serve warm or at room temperature. Sprinkle with cocoa and confectioners' sugar.
