Recipe Introduction
Posted by: DorothyR_in_Malibu Garlic bread is pretty simple, right? You grease up some bread, throw on some garlic, broil it up a bit and voila...who needs a recipe? Not so fast! With a couple of additional ingredients, you can make garlic bread that will have your family swooning!
List of Ingredients
1 (1-pound) loaf French bread
5 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
2 tablespoons olive oil
3 cloves garlic, crushed
2 teaspoons dried oregano
Dash salt (omit if using cheese)
Dash ground pepper
6 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Recipe
Preheat the broiler.
Cut the bread loaf in half lengthwise, and lay each half out flat on a baking sheet. In a small bowl, mix butter, oil, garlic, oregano, salt and pepper. (Omit salt if using cheese.) Spread the mixture evenly on the cut bread halves.
Broil 1-2 minutes or until light brown. Check frequently so they do not burn. Each broiler will be different, so don’t walk away; it can burn in an instant!
Remove from broiler and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese, if using. Return to broiler and broil another 30 seconds to 1 minute or so, until cheese is slightly brown.
Remove from oven and slice.
Serves 6. (Well, at my house, serves 4!)
