    Recipe Introduction

    List of Ingredients

    Starter Recipe:
    1 cup sugar
    1 cup milk
    1 cup flour

Combine ingredients in a large, deep glass or plastic container (large zip lock bag will work also.) Cover lightly. If the container has a lid, leave it slightly ajar. Or, place a piece of cheese-cloth over the container and secure it with a rubber band. Store at room temperature. DO NOT: use a metal spoon to stir or refrigerate.

    Recipe

Stir every day for 17 days.
    • Day 18 do nothing
    • Days 19 - 21 stir.
    • Day 22 stir and add 1 cup of each of the following: milk, flour, and sugar. Stir until mixed.
    • Day 23 – 26 stir
    • Day 27 add 1 cup of each of the following, milk, flour, and sugar. You should now have about 4 cups of starter.

Give 1 cup each to two friends and keep the remaining 2 cups for yourself. Use one in the recipe that follows and use the other to keep the starter going.

Here are a few different ways to use the starter, but probably come out pretty much the same.

    Amish Friendship Bread Recipe #1

    1 cup starter
    2/3 cup vegetable oil
    2 cups flour
    1 cup sugar
    3 eggs
    1 & ½ teaspoons baking powder
    1 to 1 & ½ teaspoons cinnamon
    ½ teaspoon vanilla
    ½ teaspoon salt
    ½ teaspoon baking soda

Your choice of raisins, chocolate chips, nuts, dates, apples, etc.

Combine all ingredients and mix well. Place batter into well-greased and sugared 9x5x3" loaf pan. Bake at 350° for 45 to 50 minutes. Cool 10 minutes before removing from pan.

    Amish Friendship Bread Recipe #2
    1 cup starter
    2/3 cup oil
    2 cups flour
    1 cup sugar
    3 eggs
    1 & ½ teaspoons baking powder
    1 & ½ teaspoons cinnamon
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    ½ tablespoons baking soda

Mix well & pour into 2 well-greased and sugared loaf pans. Top with pecans or apples. Pecans, bananas or dates may be mixed into mixture before pouring.

Bake at 350° for 30 – 40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes before removing from pan.

    Amish Friendship Bread Recipe #3
    1 cup starter
    1 cup oil
    2 cups flour
    1 & 1/3 cup sugar
    3 eggs
    2 teaspoons baking powder
    1 & ½ teaspoons cinnamon
    2 teaspoons vanilla
    1 & ½ teaspoons baking soda
    ½ teaspoon salt
    1 cup nuts or dates
1 cup fruit (may be canned, frozen or fresh, but must be drained. Pineapple, apricot, banana, blueberries, peaches, pears, or even "chunky" applesauce.)

Mix all ingredients and stir until smooth. Bake in greased loaf pans @ 350° for 40 – 45 minutes.

    Amish Friendship Bread Recipe #4

    1 cup starter
    1 cup oil
    2 cups flour
    1 cup sugar
    3 large eggs
    1 & ½ teaspoons baking powder
    2 teaspoons cinnamon
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    ½ teaspoon baking soda
    ½ teaspoon salt
1 large box instant vanilla pudding
    ½ cup milk

Mix all ingredients well and pour into two loaf pans (greased and sugared.) Extra sugar and cinnamon may be sprinkled on top if you like.

Bake @ 350° for one hour.

    Hope you can use this!
