List of Ingredients
1 box Double Dutch Devil's Food Cake mix
1 box cherry gelatin
1 cup boiling water
1/4 cup salad oil
4 whole eggs
Recipe
Place cake mix in bowl. Dissolve gelatin in boiling water in a separate bowl. Stir until dissolved. Cool to room temperature. Add to cake mix along with the oil. Beat on low speed just to moisten. Beat in eggs one at a time. Beat for 3 minutes. Pour into greased layer pans and bake as directed on cake mix box. Cool layers as directed on cake mix box.
Cherry Fudge Frosting
1 package Fudge Frosting mix or 1 can prepared Fudge Frosting
1/2 cup chopped and well-drained Maraschino cherries
Additional cherries, cut in half
Sliced almonds
If using packaged frosting, mix as directed on box. If using can of frosting, place it in a bowl. Stir in the cherries. Spread between layers and on top and sides of cake. Garnish with additional cherry halves and sliced almonds.
VARIATION: Omit the additional cherries and almonds. Melt 6 ounces of chocolate chips. Drain 1 small jar of cherries with stems and stand on paper towel to drain thoroughly. Dip each cherry in melted chocolate and place in a circle around the top edge of the frosted cake
