Lemon Cake with Lemon Pudding Sauce

List of Ingredients
3/4 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
3 eggs
1/2 tsp. lemon extract
2 cups all purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 cup milk
2 cups warm water
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. lemon extract
1/4 tsp. vanilla
2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
Recipe
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Cream shortening and the 1 cup sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the first 1/2 tsp. extract. Thoroughly stir together the flour, baking powder and salt. Add to creamed mixture alternatly with milk, beating well after each addition. Reserve 1/2 cup batter for sauce. Turn rest of batter into a greased 9x9 inch baking pan. Bake at 375 degrees for 25-30 minutes, or until cake tests done with toothpick.
Meanwhile, place reserved batter in medium saucepan. Add the warm water, the 3/4 cup sugar, the second 1/2 tsp. lemon extract and the vanilla; mix well. Cook and stir until thickened and bubbly. Stir in butter until melted.
To serve, pour sauce over warm squares of cake.
