List of Ingredients
1 large or 2 medium onions, sliced very thin
1/4 cup butter or margarine
2-2-1/2 pounds round steak, or stew meat, cut into cubes
16 oz. sliced mushrooms
2 cans tomato soup
2 tsp. prepared mustard
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
Kitchen Bouquet browning sauce—for color
1-1/2 cups sour cream. (I use reduced fat)
1 pound wide or extra wide flat noodles
Recipe
In a large skillet, sauté onions and mushrooms in butter until tender. Remove from skillet. Brown meat in the skillet on all sides. To make sauce, in a large bowl, combine soup through sour cream, adding enough Kitchen Bouquet to get nice color to sauce—usually a couple tablespoons. Add sauce to meat, onions and mushrooms and either cook on the stovetop over medium-low heat for about an hour or put into the crockpot in the AM on low—can cook all day. (To save time and dishes, mix sauce right into crockpot, then dump in cooked onions and mushrooms, then meat.) Boil noodles as directed on package and serve with stroganoff. (This is not your traditional stroganoff and is absolutely mouth watering. It’s one of those recipes that gets better with age like beef stew and chili.)
