Recipe Introduction
This cake improves upon standing and is a real hostess dream. Bake it ahead of the party. Let it stand in the refrigerator.
List of Ingredients
Cream Cheesecake Layer
2 tablespoons butter, softened
8 ounces cream cheese
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk or half and half
Chocolate Cake Layer
1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs
1 1/3 cups milk
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
dash salt
4 ounces unsweetened chocolate squares, melted and cooled
Frosting
1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup softened butter
2 ounces unsweetened chocolate squares, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
cherry halves for garnish
Recipe
1. To make cheesecake layer, combine in small mixing bow, the softened butter, cream cheese, sugar, vanilla, cornstarch, egg and milk.
2. Beat at high speed until smooth and creamy. Set aside.
3. For Chocolate layer, in large bowl of mixer, combine sugar softened butter, vanilla, eggs, milk, flour, baking powder, soda, salt and chocolate.
4. Beat at high speed for 4 minutes.
5. Spread half of chocolate batter in greased and lightly floured 13 X 9 X 2 inch pan.
6. Spread with the cheese mixture then with remaining chocolate batter.
7. Bake at 350°F for 50 to 60 minutes until cake is done.
8. Cool in pan.
9. Spread with the frosting. Cut squares to serve. Garnish with cherry halves, if used.
10. For frosting combine milk, softened butter, melted chocolate, vanilla and powdered sugar until creamy.
