Grandma's Casserole
List of Ingredients
GRANDMA'S CASSEROLE
1 cup chopped onion
1 green pepper cut into strips
3 TBS. margarine
1 & 1/2 lbs. ground beef
1 tsp. seasoned salt
1 tsp. MSG(optional)
1/2 tsp. pepper
1 TBS. sugar
1 Quart or 28oz. can stewed tomatoes cut up
(If you like a more zesty flavor-use some of the new
seasoned tomatoes like Mexican style)
1 (15 oz.) can tomato sauce
2 cups water
8 oz. uncooked wide noodles
8oz. shredded mozzarella cheese
In dutch oven, saute onion & pepper in margarine for 3 minutes. Add
ground beef and brown meat, breaking up meat with spoon as it cooks.
Add seasoned salt, MSG, pepper and sugar. Stir in tomatoes, tomato
sauce and water. Heat to boiling, reduce heat and simmer 15 minutes.
in a 13x9x2" dish, put noodles in the bottom, then cover with tomato
mixture. Top with cheese, making sure noodles are well covered by the
sauce. Cover pan with aluminum foil and bake in preheated oven
(350degrees). Bake for 45 minutes. Cut and serve as you would
lasagna.
This may be prepared the night before, refrigerated and baked when
needed. Especially good for pot luck suppers. Freezes very well. It
is rather mild, so if you like spicy foods, add spices accordingly.
