Stonewall’ Chocolate Chip Cookies

Bob Krick’s Favorite ‘
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup stone ground flour from Jackson’s Mill in Weston, W.V., boyhood home of Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate morsels
1 cup chopped pecans
• Combine flour, baking soda and salt. Set aside.
• Beat butter, both sugars and vanilla in large mixing bowl. To this add eggs one at a time.
• Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in chocolate and nuts. Drop by rounded spoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheet.
• Bake in preheated over 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. • Do not overbake. Remove immediately from pans. Cool on flat surface.

The famed Confederate general Stonewall Jackson passed through Loudoun during the war. His meeting with top commanders Robert E. Lee, J.E.B. Stuart and James Longstreet is recorded at a home on King Street in Leesburg. This recipe is named for modern-day historian Robert K. Krick, leading authority on Gen. Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia.
