Breakfast Scrapple with green chilies
List of Ingredients
Breakfast Scrapple
3 cups boiling water
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup yellow cornmeal
1 cup cold water
1 pound American style breakfast sausage
1 pound hamburger
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 medium onion minced
1 small can green chilies
1 small jar pimentos (sorry can't be more exact as
they don't come that way here and Granny didn't say!)
1 cup flour
Stir cornmeal and flour into the cup of cold water. Spoon mixture slowly into the boiling water in a saucepan and stir. Lower the heat, cover, and simmer for 8 minutes. Meanwhile brown onions, sausage, and hamburger in skillet, drain grease off and add garlic salt, salt, green chilies and pimentos. Pour in the 'mush' from the saucepan and mix. Pour into any size pan (bread, square, whatever) that is convenient and refrigerate over night. When ready to serve, slice in to 1/2 inch pieces and brush with flour. Brown each side in a small amount of oil in skillet. Can serve with hot sauce. Can also be frozen as soon as mixed to use later. Recipe
submitter commments:
This one is my husband's favorite from it and will always
remind us of her. Granny has said that she's not sure of the origin but she's made it 'forever'.
