Apple Dumplings [stuffed]
List of Ingredients
The apple is peeled, cored and then stuffed with butter, brown sugar, cinnamon and raisins, if preferred. It is then wrapped in pie dough and baked. Bake at 375 for 35-40 minutes. During the baking it can be glazed with additional brown sugar and butter mixture.
Recipe
I recently made a batch of Apple Dumplings using a recipe found on our
list. They were yummy and my family finished them off in record time. Having
never seen one before though, I have a question as to what they are SUPPOSED
to look like. I folded the pie dough over the top of mine and baked them that
way, but maybe the pie dough is supposed to be pinched at the top to sort of
form a little "sack" for the apple.
I also wondered about coring the apple. I cored my apples all the way
through and then when I poured in the melted butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon
mixture, it ran all the way through and came out the bottom. So then I just
rolled the outside of my peeled apples in the melted mixture and coated the
outside of the apples before I sealed them up in the pie dough. It was kind
of messy. I wonder if one is supposed to core the apples only part of the way
through to sort of hold the melted stuff in place so it doesn't leak out all
over the place.
My family loved them and I plan to make them again, but I'm still curious
if I did any thing out of the ordinary in the way I made them ? The recipe is
above compliments of Dick M
