    PA Bread

    List of Ingredients

    1/2 cup lukewarm water
    1/2 teaspoon sugar
    2 tablespoons yeast
Dissolve yeast and sugar in lukewarm water.

    In a large bowl combine:
    3 cups lukewarm water
    1/2 cup sugar
    2 teaspoons salt
1/4 cup melted lard or Crisco

Add yeast mixture to this and stir well. Stir in about 7 cups flour*, OR enough so that the dough will not stick to your hands. Knead for about 10 minutes on a floured surface. Place in a well-greased bowl and let rise in a warm place until double in bulk. Punch down and divide dough in 3 portions. Knead and form into loaves placing them in bread pans. Let rise until dough has doubled.
Bake in preheated oven at 350° for 35 to 45 minutes.
Remove from the oven, place bread on a cooling rack and brush top with butter or Crisco to keep the crust soft.

    * If you desire brown bread, replace 2 cups white flour with 2 cups whole wheat.
