Saint's Hearts aka Sand Tarts
List of Ingredients
from the mennonite community cookbook pp 274-275
1 C. shortening
2 C sugar
3 eggs
3.5- 4 C flour
1 tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp lemon or vanilla extract
Cream shortening and sugar
add eggs and flavoring and beat until fluffy
sift flour
add salt and baking powder
sift again
add dry ingredients to creamed mixture
stir until medium soft dough is formed
chill several hours
roll very thin and cut into fancy shapes
brush tops with rich milk and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon
decorate w/pecan halves
place 1" apart on greased cookie sheet
bake at 350 8-10 minutes
makes 4-5 dozen
