    Shoo Fly with King Syrup

    List of Ingredients




    Aunt's Favorite recipe
    One 9 inch unbaked pie crust; Bake at 375 degrees for 35 minutes.

    Combine:
    1 Cup flour,
    2/3 Cup light brown sugar,
    1 rounded tablespoon of Shortening.
    Blend with a pastry blender till you have a very fine crumb mixture. Take out 1/2 cup of crumbs and set aside.

    In another bowl combine:
    1 egg slightly beaten,
    1 Cup King Syrup ( I use dark Karo as it more closely
    resembles King that is available in Pennsylvania but not where I live), [Phil's note it is a Golden Syrup]
    3/4 cup cold water.
    Blend with a whisk.

    Into 1/4 cup hot water add 1 teaspoon baking soda and stir until dissolved.
    Add to liquid mixture and blend.

    Pour the liquid mixture into the crumb mixture and blend slightly.
    Pour this into unbaked pie shell; sprinkle 1/2 cup crumbs across top of
    liquid mixture.
    Bake.
    Cool, slice and ENJOY!
