    1 package yeast
    1/4 cup warm water
    2 teaspoons sugar
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    3/4 cup milk -- scalded
    2 cups flour
    1 tablespoon shortening -- melted
    1 pound hamburger
    1/2 pound sausage -- (German, if you can find it)
    1/2 large onion -- chopped
    3 cups shredded cabbage
    1 1/2 teaspoons salt
    1 1/2 teaspoons pepper
    1 1/2 cups water
    egg (optional)
    caraway seeds (optional)

    Add yeast & sugar to warm water. Let stand five minutes. In the
    meantime, scald milk & let cool. Blend in milk, salt, shortening &
    flour. Place in greased bowl & cover with damp cloth. Let rise in
    warm place 45 minutes.

    In a large skillet, brown hamburger & sausage together. Drain off
    fat. Add other ingredients, mixing well. Bring to boil, then reduce
    heat & simmer 20 minutes til water is gone. Mixture is ready to
    place on dough.

    Roll dough out into a rectangle 1/8" thick. Cut into squares
    approximately 5" square. Place 2/3 cup of cabbage/meat mixture in
    center of dough square. Bring corners together & pinch shut to make
    packages. Place on greased baking sheets. If desired, brush with
    egg wash & sprinkle with caraway seeds. Let rise 20 minutes. Bake
    25-30 minutes at 375F.
