2 whole-wheat sandwich buns, toasted
1 large tomato, sliced
1 sweet onion, thinly sliced
Romano cheese, shaved thin
Mayonnaise and/or Italian dressing, according to taste
(my husband uses both)
Either scrape bottom half of buns with mayonnaise or dip tomato slices
in Italian dressing (or both--see above), and lay tomato on buns.
Cover with onion to taste and top with shavings of Romano cheese. Run
the bottom halves under the broiler just long enough to melt the
cheese and warm the vegetables. Top with the remaining halves of the
buns and serve. (Mayo on the top bun is also optional.)
