    12 upper wing portions
    2 tablespoons soy sauce
    2 tablespoons dry sherry
    1/4 tablespoon sugar
    2 teaspoons ground ginger
    2 teaspoons Chinese five spice powder
    4 tablespoons cornstarch

    Makin' It:
    First, prepare the wings by cutting around the bone at the small end, through the skin and muscle. Pull the meat and skin down toward the large end, as if you were pulling a shirt off over your head. Leave the skin on the bone. Mix the rest of the ingredients together and marinate the chicken for about a half hour. Deep fry in oil at 375* until they're tender and golden; the juices will run clear when stabbed with a toothpick.
