    1 stick butter
    1 cup sugar
    1 cup self-rising flour
    1 cup milk
    2 cups prepared fruit [e.g., fresh strawberries, blackberries, peaches, and blueberries

    Place stick of butter (1/2 cup) in 9x9x3-inch baking dish and melt in oven as it preheats to 350 F. [OPTIONAL: coat the berries with lemon juice and sugar, and add a bit of cinnamon to the batter]

    Mix sugar, flour and milk in a bowl until smooth. Once butter has melted, pour batter into center of baking dish. Pour fruit into center of batter. Batter and fruit will spread as they bake. If it appears that fruit is not spreading in first 10-15 minutes of baking, spread with fork.

    Bake in a 350 F oven for an hour or until golden brown.

    Serve hot or cold (with ice cream!). Or serve warm, with milk poured over it instead of ice cream
