List of Ingredients
1 small head green cabbage
1/2 c butter or margerine
1 large onion, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, minced or pressed
2 Tbs sugar
8 oz dry wide egg noodles
Salt and pepperRecipe
Cut cabbage into fine shreds, discarding core. You should have about 2 qts. Set aside.
Melt butter in wide frying pan over medium heat. Add onion and garlic and cook, stirring occasionally until onion is soft but not brown - about 5-7 minutes. Add cabbage,continue to cook, stiring often, until cabbage is softened and turns a brighter green, about 5 minutes. Sprinkle with sugar; continue to cook, stirring often, until cabbage takes on an amber color and begins to brown lightly, about 25 minutes.
Shortly before cabbage is done, in a 5-6 qt pan, cook noodles in 3 qts of boiling water just until tender to bite (7-9 minutes); or cook according to package directions. Drain well.
In a wide shallow serving bowl or deep platter, combine noodles and cabbage mixture; mix lightly, using 2 forks. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Makes 4 to 6 side dishes.
