Buttermilk Honey Wheat Bread

List of Ingredients
- 2-1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon and 1-1/2 teaspoons vegetable oil
- 1-1/4 cup water
- 5 Tablespoons buttermilk powder
Instructions
- Add liquids to pan of bread machine: honey, oil, water.
- Add to pan: both flours, baking soda, salt, buttermilk powder.
- If baking in bread machine, use medium temperature setting.
- If baking in oven, use manual or dough cycle to knead dough. Let rise in machine pan.
- Remove from bread maker and place in greased loaf pan. Let rise again until doubled.
- Bake in preheated 350 degree F oven for 25 minutes, or until loaf sounds hollow when tapped.
Final Comments
Buttermilk can be substituted. Use 1-1/2 cups buttermilk in place of water and buttermilk powder.
For rolls: add 1/4 cup more whole wheat flour to recipe. Form dough into 15 2-inch balls and place close together on greased baking sheet. Let rise approx. 30 minutes until nearly doubled. Bake at 350 for 12 minutes.
