2 cups milk, scalded
1 cake yeast, softened in 1/4 cup lukewarm water
2 tablespoons sugar
6-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup shortening
3/4 cup sugar
15 cardamom seeds, finely ground
1/2 teaspoon salt
Beat together milk, yeast
Recipe
Beat together milk, yeast, 2 tablespoons sugar and 3 cups flour. Set aside in a warm place to rise until double in bulk.
Cream the shortening and ¾ cup sugar. Add the cardamom seeds to the cream mixture. Then add them to the risen flour ingredients.
Now, mix in the remaining flour and salt to the yeast flour mixture. Knead about 5 minutes into soft dough. Cover with a cloth and let rise in a warm place until dough doubles in size.
Preheat Oven 375-degrees.
Shape dough into two loaves, let rise in a warm place until they double in size again. Bake in a preheated 375-degree oven 35 minutes or until you can insert a knife into center and it comes out clean.
