    Caramel Sauce

    List of Ingredients




    2 cups sugar
    1/2 cup water
    1 14oz can sweetened condensed milk
    1/2 cup butter, softened
    2 Tbs vanilla

    Recipe



    In medium saucepan, heat sugar and water over medium-high heat, stirring constantly, until mixture boils. Without stirring, continue boiling over medium-high heat about 10 to 18 minutes. As mixture begins to darken, tilt pan occasionaly to keep color even until mixture turns a deep caramel color; remove from heat. Using a clean spoon, gradually stir in milk (mixture will foam up); do not scrape sides of pan. One tablespoon at a time, add 1/4 cup butter, stirring well after each addition. Stir in vanilla and remaining butter.
    Serve warm over ice cream.

    Ever since I made this, my family no longer likes the store-bought toppings!
