Spaghetti Sauce

Recipe Introduction
I sometimes add meatballs after the sauce is simmering.
List of Ingredients
- 2 tblsp oil
- 2 chopped onions
- 2 cloves of garlic minced
- 1 can diced tomatoes (28 oz)
- 1 cup water
- 1/4 cup chopped parsley (optional)
- 2 bay leaves (or a dash of basil)
- 1/2 tsp thyme
- 2 1/2 tsp cayenne
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- 1/4 tsp crushed dried red peppers
- 1 can tomato paste (6 oz)
- handful of chopped red/green peppers (optional)
- 1 lb cooked spaghetti (or your favourite pasta)
- grated parmesan cheese
- 1 lb lean ground beef
Instructions
- In saucepan, saute the onion and garlic in oil until yellowed.
- Add ground beef and brown. (Drain off fat if desired)
- Add the can of tomatoes and simmer uncovered 20 mins.
- Add water, tomato paste, seasonings and peppers.
- Add meatballs if desired and bring to a boil.
- Cover and simmer for at least 2 hours.
- Serve over cooked pasta and top with grated parmesan.
Final Comments
I usually make this a day ahead for best results.
