    2 packages yeast
    2 eggs
    5 cups sifted flour
    1/4 cup water
    melted butter
    1 cup milk
    1 1/2 cup finely grated semi sweet chocolate (4oz bar)
    1/2 cup sugar
    1/4 cup shortening or oil
    2 teaspoon salt
    3/4 cup finely chopped marachino cherries

    Soften yeast in water. Scald milk. Measure sugar, shortening, salt into large bowl. Add hot milk, stirring until sugar is dissolved and shortening melted. Cool to lukewarm temp. Stir in about 1 1/2 cup flour, beat well. Beat in softened yeast and eggs. Stir in enough flour to make a soft dough. Turn on a lightly foured board and knead until smooth and satiny. (5-8 mins.)Shape into ball and place in lightly greased bowl turning to grease surface of ball. Cover and let rise in warm place until ball has doubled in size. About 1 1/2 hours. Punch down, divide dough in half and shape into smooth balls. Cover, let rise 10 minutes.
    Roll out 1/2 dough to a 8x36" rectangle. Brush with butter.Brush with butter. Sprinkle 3/4 cup chocolate evenly over dough. Sprinkle with 6 tablespoons cherries.
    Starting with narrow end roll up tightly like a jelly roll to the CENTER of rectangle. Roll up other end also to the center. Push the two rolls together slightly to form a 'scroll'. Place flat side down in a greased 5 1/2x9 1/2 loaf pan. Repeat with other half of dough.
    Brush with butter. Let rise in warm place until doubled (about 45 minutes)
    Bake in moderate oven 350degrees for 30 to 35 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from pans and brush with butter.
    Slice when cool
    Makes 2 loaves
