    Mom's Devil Dogs

    Yes, I know that there are gazillions of versions of this recipe out there. But this is the way that my Mom taught me to make them, and that's more than good enough for me!!


    Cake:

    1/2 cup solid shortening
    1 egg
    2 cups all-purpose flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 cup sugar
    1/2 cup cocoa
    1-1/2 tsp. baking soda
    1 tsp. vanilla extract

    Filling:

    3/4 cup shortening or butter
    1-1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
    1/2 (7-oz.) jar Marshmallow Fluff
    1/2 tsp. vanilla extract


    Mix shortening and sugar together, then add egg. Blend in cocoa, then add other dry ingredients alternately with milk and vanilla. Bake in tablespoonfuls of batter for 5 to 10 minutes in preheated 425º F. oven on ungreased cookie sheet.
    Combine all filling ingredients until smooth. Place a teaspoonful of filling between two cooled cookies to assemble.
