Alabama Seafood Gumbo

List of Ingredients
- 1 large onion
- 1 cloves garlic
- 1/2 cup bell pepper
- 2 tablespoon butter
- 2 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 package 20 oz okra
- 1 - 28 oz ca tomatoes
- 3 tablespoons flour
- 1 quart water
- 1 chicken bullion cup
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 lb of raw shrimp (cleaned)
- 1 teaspoon tobasco sauce
- 1 tablespoon worcheshire sauce
- 1 tablespoon gumbo file'
- 1 lb crab meat (NO SHELL) optional
- 1 doz oysters (optional)
Instructions
- Saute' onions, garlic, bell pepper in butter and oil.
- Cook okra and tomatoes. Drain but keep liquid.
- Add juice to saute'mixture. Cook 5 minutes.
- In a separate pan, melt butter and add flour and brown to make a rue.
- Gradually add water. Stir in bullion cube with salt and pepper and juice from okra and tomatoes.
- Add saute' mixture. Cook 1 hour on low (or longer if you wish)
- Add seafood, tabasco, lemon juice and worcheshire sauce.
- Cook for 20 minutes.
- Serve over rice with crackers.
Final Comments
You can sprinkle old bay seasoning on individual bowls for a different flavor.
