FRESH APPLE COOKIES

Grandmother Leonhart made these with apples from the trees in her backyard.





List of Ingredients



• 1/2 C. shortening (1/4 lb. oleo)
  
• 1 C. brown sugar
  
• 1/2 C. white sugar
  
• 1 C. peeled chopped apples
  
• 2 eggs, beaten
  
• 1 C. nuts (she used black walnuts)
  
• 1 C. raisins,
  
• 1/2 C. boiling water, (pour over raisins & use liquid)
  
• 1 t. baking soda
  
• 1 t. baking powder
  
• 1/2 t. salt
  
• 1/2 t. nutmeg
  
• 1/4 t. cloves
  
• 1 t. vanilla
  
• 2 1/2 c. sifted flour
  






Instructions



1. Cream shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla.
   
2. Sift dry ingredients to mixture, add apples.
   
3. Drop by tsp. 2" apart on greased cookie sheet.
   
4. Bake 8-10 minutes at 400 degrees.
