    List of Ingredients


    • Cake:
    • 1 cup softened butter or margarine
    • 2 cups sugar
    • 1/2 cup cocoa
    • 6 eggs, separated
    • 1 cup sifted cake flour
    • 2 cups chopped nuts
    • 1 tbsp vanilla
    • Coffee Icing:
    • 1/2 cup softened butter or margarine
    • 16 oz box confectioners sugar
    • 1/2 cup cold coffee
    • 1/2 to 1 cup cocoa, to taste
    • 1 tbsp vanilla
    • 1/8 tsp salt


    Instructions


    1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
    2. With electric mixer, cream butter, add sugar and cocoa. mix well
    3. Stir in egg yolks, blending well
    4. Beat egg whites until stiff - set aside
    5. By hand, fold sifted flour, nuts, vanilla and egg whites into creamed mixture.
    6. Pour batter into lightly greased 9x13 pan
    7. bake 35 minutes. When done, cake should still be moist in the centre like brownies
    8. Cool and spread with coffee icing
    9. Icing:
    10. cream butter until lightly whipped
    11. Gradually add icing sugar, coffee and cocoa. The amount of cocoa used depends on how much chocolate you like
    12. Add vanilla and salt, blending thoroughly
    13. Spread on cake.
