1 egg
3 tablespoons plain wheat bran
2 tablespoons minced onion
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1-1/2 pounds ground beef
1 4-ounce can of chopped mushrooms, drained
2 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons whole grain wheat flour
1 3/4 cups beef broth or stock (contents of a typical can) Recipe
In a medium bowl, combine egg, bran, onion, salt, pepper and garlic. Add ground beef and mix well. Shape into four even patties. In a medium skillet, cook patties for four to five minutes on each side or until browned; drain. Remove to a platter and keep warm. In the same skillet, melt the butter and sauté the mushrooms until soft. Add the flour; and cook and stir for a minute or two longer.
Add beef broth all at once; cook and stir until smooth and thickened. Return patties to gravy and cook and stir, uncovered, over low heat for about 10 minutes more. Makes four servings.
