- 2/3 cup butter, softened
- 1 3/4 cup sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup cocoa
- 2 cups flour
- 1 1/2 cups buttermilk, or soured milk
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees, Grease and flour 2 nine-inch round baking pans.
- Beat butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla in large bowl until fluffy. Combine flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda; add alternately with buttermilk to butter mixture, beating just until smooth. Pour batter into prepared pans
- Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until wooden toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans to wire racks. Cool completely. Frost.
