    8 yams
    1/2 stick unsalted butter
    1 teaspoon cinnamon
    1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
    1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar

    Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Cook the unpeeled yams in boiling water or bake until tender. Cool and then peel. Once the yams are cooled, and peeled you can then slice them. Slice about 1/4 inch thick. Place the sliced yams in a greased baking dish. In a small saucepan melt the butter, then stir in the vanilla and cinnamon. Pour over the yams. Sprinkle with the brown sugar. Bake until the syrup is nicely carmelized, about 25 to 30 minutes.
