    Almond Glazed Sugar Cookies

    This recipe took first place in the Post-Crescent cookie contest in 2004.

    List of Ingredients




    1 c. butter, softened
    3/4 c. sugar
    1 tsp. almond extract
    2 c. flour
    1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1/4 tsp. salt

    Glaze:
    1 1/2 c. powdered sugar
    1 tsp. almond extract
    4 - 5 tsp. water
    Sliced almonds

    Preheat ove to 400 degrees. Combine all cookie ingredients in a large mixer bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often until creamy.

    Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls, 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets. Flatten balls to 1/4 inch thickness with the bottom of a buttered glass dipped in sugar. Bake for 7 - 9 minutes or until edges are very lightly browned. Cool 1 minute; remove from cookie sheets.
    Cool completely.

    In a small bowl, using a wire whisk, combine all glaze ingredients except for the almonds. Spread thin layer of glaze on cooled cookies and sprinkle one edge of cookie with sliced almonds.
