Roasted Asparagus

1 bunch, fresh asparagus
olive oil
pepper
garlic powder/salt (optional)
Preheat oven to 500 degrees. Wash the asparagus in cool water, making sure to clean the tips. Cut/snap about an inch off the bottom of each spear. Cut the spears on the diagonal into 2-inch pieces. Put them in a baking dish and drizzle olive oil over them. Sprinkle with pepper (& garlic powder). Place in oven and roast for 3 to 5 minutes or until tender when pierced with a knife
