List of Ingredients
FRIENDSHIP STARTER:
Day 1: Mix 1 C each, milk, flour and milk in a large glass or ceramic bowl or jar. Use a wooden
spoon. Cover loosely with plastic wrap. Leave on counter.
Day 2-5: Leave it alone to bubble.
Day 6: Stir once.
Day 7: Feed with 1 C each, sugar, flour and milk. Mix first, then add.
Days 8-9: Stir once each day.
Day 10: Feed with 1 C each, sugar, flour and milk. Mix first, then add.
Today you can take out 1 C starter for baking and 1 C to give to a friend.
To maintain your starter:
Stir each day and feed it every 5th day , (calendar dates 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th and 30th of
the month might be easier). You may have to skip a day or two to get on this schedule, but that
won't hurt (be sure to stir each day.) You can remove starter any day you want for baking or to
give to a friend. Always leave a cup in the starter container and continue feeding every 5th day.
Recipe
FRIENDSHIP CAKE
1 C sourdough starter
2/3 C oil
3 eggs
2 C flour
1 C sugar
1 1/2 t cinnamon
2 t baking powder
1/2 t salt
1 1/2 t baking soda
2 t vanilla
Beat until smooth & fold in any of the following:
1 C chopped apple; 1 C well-drained pineapple; 1 C raisins; 1 C coconut; 1 C chocolate chips;
1 C nuts. Bake in greased tube or bundt pan (I used 2 loaf pans - greased and floured) for about
45 minutes at 350 degrees. (NOTE: pineapple makes it very moist) Here are some
combinations I have used: 1 C zucchini; 1 C zucchini & 1 C pineapple; 1 C zucchini & 1 C
chocolate chips; 2 very ripe bananas; 1 C sweet potatoes; 1 C pureed persimmons. Some I
have added nutmeg to - used pumpkin pie spice in the sweet potato. So far everyone has turned
out okay.
